Research Activities
The group's efforts can be divided into two major categories: particle
theory and string theory.
- Particle theory research is concerned with the standard model and possible deviations from, and extensions to, it. The group has worked on electroweak symmetry breaking, supersymmetry, grand unification,
perturbative QCD, cosmology, and methods to test the standard model in current and future experiments.
- The string theory group works on string theory, quantum gravity, conformal field theory, quantum groups, topological field theory and the foundations of quantum mechanics.
Seminars
The group hosts two main seminars:
- Particle Seminars are at 2:30pm on Mondays in Room 402 in Old LeConte on Campus.
- String Seminars are at 3:40pm on Tuesdays in Room 402 in Old LeConte on Campus.
There are also two informal seminars:
- 4D Seminars are informal lunch talks, at 12:30pm on Wednesdays in the INPA Conference Room (50-5026) at LBL.
- String Group Meetings are informal meetings at 3:10pm on Wednesdays in Room 402 in Old LeConte on Campus.

Job Openings
The Theoretical Physics Group of the University of California at
Berkeley and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory expects to have
one or more positions open in the Fall of 2008. Persons who have
obtained a Ph.D. by that date in Theoretical Particle Physics or
related fields are encouraged to apply. Appointments are typically for
two or three years, depending on the experience and qualifications of
the appointee. Please reference job #21110 in your application.
Applications will be reviewed beginning December 1. Jobs will be open
until filled.
The LBNL Theory Group and the Center for Theoretical Physics at UC
Berkeley operate as a single group, with a research program including
particle physics, cosmology, and string theory. For more information
